The fantasy is to wander through the framework of the uncompleted Parkhotel (see graduation project), Walking through the combination of light and shadow, exploring unreachable parts, unexpected cut outs of incomplete spots and the difference in density of the construction. I made a model out of this fantasy by constantly rotating one element. |
By looking at the object in combination with the use of light from different directions, I constantly change the image of the object. Parts of the object disappear and others are melting together.

The graphic is a representation of the 3 dimensional model subjected to light striking. The graphic creates my new interpretation of the model, with a new dimension in the variety of direction and concentration points.

The satisfying outcomes of the graphic, with its variety in directions and concentrations, gave me the reason to transform this drawing into a 3 dimensional model, conserving these positives.
Instead of looking at the drawing as if it is a section or floor plan, I interpreted the graphic as an instruction drawing. The intersections become the bending points and the angle between 2 lines express the rotation angle.

To make the enormous knot of lines useful I took 3 layers. By transforming two consecutive lines into the borders of the planes, I gave the planes diversity in size, width and length. Now the 2 dimensional figure creates a 3 dimensional model.
The graphic reminds me of the remains of a house, left like a trace on the wall. One can imagine how the house has used to look; the outlines give us certain expectations. But is this the reality or is it not what we expected? The unpredictability of the graphic makes both the graphic and its 3 dimensional outcome interesting and useful.
